In this world premier of A Walk in Hamilton Gardens, acclaimed pianist Katherine Austin will take us on a musical journey around our iconic gardens – but the evening doesn’t end there!
Listeners will be treated to musical representations of all their favourite gardens by one of New Zealand’s leading composers, Janet Jennings.
Poet Ursula Bethell wrote of the struggles and triumphs she experienced as she created her garden in Christchurch’s Cashmere Hills. Her words have been set to music by Janet in songs that are sometimes funny, often moving, and always beautiful.
Mezzo soprano Cecily Shaw and pianist Francis Cowan complete this garden-themed concert. From the Rhododendron Lawn, through the famous themed gardens to the Rose Garden, there’s something for everyone in this delightful musical expedition.
